This bench has been erected by the Grange Association in memory of Alan McKinney, who sadly died earlier this year Alan organised the re-erection of fallen grave stones in Grange Cemetery by youngsters from the Community Payback Scheme.
I am sure Alan would have been very pleased with this new bench.
This is a very appropriate memorial for Alan. I remember chatting to him in the cemetery a year or so ago, when he was supervising the Community Payback Scheme. It was very worthwhile work and it is good that he is being remembered in this way.

I’m so pleased to see the bench finally in place and in such a good setting. Alan was also heavily involved in helping me with research into the Grange Catacombs – the write-up of this is now available via the Grange Cemetery pages. I am sad that he wasn’t here to see visitors’ significant interest in the catacombs during the recent Open Days. As well as Alan’s great work with the Community Payback Scheme he contributed significantly to our efforts on cemetery gardening days. I remember well the tree trunks and memorials he freed from their ivy shrouds, and always done with a dogged determination (outside of bird nesting season, of course).
