Here is a short report from the latest Grange Prestonfield Community Council (GPCC) meeting:-
16 SEPTEMBER 2026 Meeting:
Rankin Drive Parking Restrictions: Approved at 12 May meeting of the Traffic Regulation Orders Sub-Committee (TRO SC), notwithstanding over 60 submitted local objections. GPCC subsequently submitted a recommendation on Committee procedural improvement to give a community council consultation response stronger recognition and profile.
Carriageway Resurfacing Work: Minto Street, Mayfield Gardens, Craigmillar Park: CEC works notification letter will be distributed to residents and businesses. Phase 1 structural works over Oct and Nov. Phase 2 resurfacing works commence in Jan 2027. There will be temporary signage, traffic disruption and spillover impact into side streets. GPCC to ask for further information from CEC Operational Services (Roads and Infrastructure) on safeguarding arrangements once the works notification letter has been published.
Parking: Proposals for Controlled Parking Zone S8, Blackford-Newington: Decision deferred to the next TRO SC on 5 November, for procedural reasons. Following a huge response from local residents and businesses, changes to the original plan include removal of Blackford Avenue South from the CPZ boundary (protecting the retail units there), removal of Blackford Bank from the proposal and removal of West Grange Gardens form Zone S8 to S1. Resident concerns tabled with GPCC on matters such as displacement parking and loss of parking will continue to be conveyed to Ward Councillors.
Weed Control: The change in Council policy with regard to the application of glyphosate weed treatment is recognised. Notwithstanding the Council’s commitment to focused manual control of weed spread, it is clear that this is an uphill struggle, that weed-strewn residential streets in many areas are an eyesore and that residents are left with the problem. GPCC will make the point to Ward Councillors that what is an impasse is creating a city embarrassment.
Holyrood Park: Lorna Slater MSP is expected to attend the GPCC meeting on 21 Oct 2026, to present her ideas for a Parliamentary Member’s Bill on enhanced protection for Holyrood Park. The meeting is at Cameron House Community Education Centre, 34 Prestonfield Avenue, EH16 5EU, at 18.45. The meeting is open to the public (although it is not a ‘public meeting’).
