Here is the short report of the latest Grange Prestonfield Community Council (GPCC) Meeting:-
17 JUNE 2026 Meeting: Cllr. Steve Burgess in attendance
Rankin Drive Parking Restrictions: Legally introduced at the Traffic Regulation Order Sub-Committee on 12 May. Strong push-back from local residents on a wide number of counts. Tabled objections from the opening ‘consultation’ were not queried at all by Councillors who attended the Sub-Committee meeting. (Ward Councillor Pauline Flannery has tabled a procedural query in this respect at the Full Council meeting on 25 June.) GPCC’s line on the Rankin Drive restrictions is that they are imbalanced and out-of-kilter with what is actually needed.
Southside-Newington By-Election: Upon the resignation of former Cllr. Kumar as she moves to the Scottish Parliament and a Government post. Notice of Election on 15 July; election on 3 September.
Strathearn Road Post Office Parcel Centre: We understand the site has been purchased by an Edinburgh Architectural firm as a practice headquarters.
Parking: Proposals for Controlled Parking Zone S8, Blackford-Newington: Anticipate a possible Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) at the 11 September June TRO Sub-Committee. Look for the Agenda on 4 September. Representation from the public, on the day, in respect of items on the Sub-Committee is in effect denied, it now emerges. Objections are held to have been tabled during the window when the Zone S8 plans were first opened for consultation (mid-2025).
Edinburgh Council Community Grants Fund (CGF): New award cycle now open. See GPCC Website. Applications close at 11.00, 29 June 2026. The CGF is open to constituted local voluntary organisations and community groups. It’s there to support grassroots ideas with support of up to £5000 per project. Search ‘Edinburgh community grants fund’.
Prestonfield Road/Priestfield Road Streetscapes: The Prestonfield design is almost complete and will go ahead. The Priestfield project is on hold, against resident opposition to plans for street trees. The Council’s immediate focus in the south-east is to deliver the A701 re-surfacing along Minto Street, Mayfield Gardens and Craigmillar Park, for the 2027 Tour de France’ project.
