I installed very simple secondary glazing on our living room bay window a year ago and it made a significant difference. I used whole sheets of Perspex and kept them up Oct-April (have just reinstalled them). Tend to open other windows even in the winter so it’s not exactly replicable for every room. The sound difference is amazing, not that I needed it.
I basically copied what the good folks in Lewes do in this video
