Boundaries Scotland is consulting the public on its provisional proposals for changes to the boundaries of the Scottish parliamentary constituencies.  Its review does not affect UK Parliament boundaries, council area or ward boundaries.

The proposals include moving the Southside / Newington ward, which includes almost all the Grange Association’s area:

      • from the Edinburgh Southern constituency (present MSP: Daniel Johnson, Labour)
      • to the Edinburgh Central constituency (present MSP: Angus Robertson, SNP)

Full details are available from Boundaries Scotland, including this document summarising the proposals.  The public consultation runs until 17 June 2023 and you can leave comments for Boundaries Scotland at consult.boundaries.scot.

The existing boundaries are shown below for Edinburgh Southern (35) and Edinburgh Central (31):

The proposed boundaries are shown below for Edinburgh Central (now to include the Grange):

The proposed constituency revision takes much of The Grange out of Edinburgh South, separates it from Morningside and Merchiston and puts it into Edinburgh Central which includes Broughton. with which it has nothing in common.

The consultation process was poorly publicised and of short duration. GA members may wish to write to Boundaries Scotland (boundaries.scot@scottishboundaries.gov.uk) to protest about the inadequate consultation.
