‘James Clerk Maxwell, the Edinburgh Mathematician who Shaped the Modern World’.
This month’s Grange Association talk, the final event of this season, will take place on Tuesday 18 March. The talk will be about James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879), the Edinburgh-born Physicist and Mathematician, widely regarded as the father of modern science. Our speaker will be Peter Grant OBE, for 14 years a Trustee of the James Clerk Maxwell Foundation.
The talk will be preceded by the Grange Association’s AGM, which all members are encouraged to attend. This will begin at 7.00pm, lasting about 30 minutes. There will then be a short break before Peter’s talk begins at 7.45pm. If you wish to attend the talk but are unable to come to the AGM, you should aim to arrive at about 7.30pm. Both events will take place at St Catherine’s Argyle Church, Grange Road. Doors open at 6.30 pm and tea, coffee and biscuits will be available from then. This event is free for members, and £5 for non-members. (For anyone who wishes to join the Association, it will be possible to do so at the event).
NEXT DATE FOR YOUR DIARY: This will be the final talk of the current season. We are currently beginning to draw together a programme for next season which will begin on 21 October 2025. As regards the venue for next season’s talks, it is currently looking likely that St Catherine’s Argyle will be closed and put up for sale some time in 2025 or 2026. We are monitoring the position and will keep members informed as to how this may affect our future talks.
